Online education describes teaching and learning that takes place over the Internet. Students have the flexibility to learn and study whenever and wherever they have Internet access. At Broadview University (formerly Utah Career College) students are required to log into their course(s) at least once a week. They are responsible for developing their schedules for reading, studying, completing assignments, and participating in group discussions. Contact Broadview University, or call us at 877-609-8889 to learn more.
World-wide student body
Students are able to develop knowledge and collaborate with other students from around the world. This is usually not possible in a traditional college classroom.
Role of online teachers
Instructors act as mentors and guides and are available to answer questions during scheduled times (akin to posted office hours in a traditional college).
Can I get into an online college?
If you are eligible for admission to Broadview University, you are eligible for admission to the online division.
Do I need a computer to take online courses?
To be an online student, you must have regular access to a computer that meets the following standards:
- MS Windows XP or Vista operating system and Microsoft Office Professional 2007
- Reliable Internet access, preferably high speed Internet access through cable or broadband
- Internet Explorer (AOL does not work)
- Access to web-based e-mail. GU/MSB provides all enrolled students an e-mail account during orientation
Can I apply for financial aid?
All eligible students can apply for financial aid. Like students at our brick and mortar campuses, they may be qualified for Broadview scholarships as well as external loans and grants.
Aren’t online classes easier?
No. Online classes are as challenging as residential classes. Online learning requires a high level of self-motivation and discipline — it is hard to catch up if you fall behind.
What if I don’t know much about computers?
We have an online course management software package, Blackboard, which is used around the world. It is similar to e-mail, your computer at work or any basic software program. We require new students to complete the Online Learner Orientation Course so they have the skills and knowledge they will need to succeed in online classes. This class familiarizes the student with the UCC online environment.
Can I connect with my instructors and classmates?
Broadview online students have the opportunity to chat, e-mail and IM others in their online classes. They often say that this is one of the most satisfying parts of being an online learner. Most classes contain an online discussion component — a chance for everyone to contribute.
Can I talk with my teacher?
Faculty members post their telephone numbers and they listen to voice mail often. They may also be available to students via telephone or IM during posted “office hours”. Of course, they also check e-mail regularly to answer student questions about assignments, class content or readings.
Am I ready for online classes?
You can determine your level of readiness by taking our Online Course Readiness Assessment. Most students are ready to be successful online learners.
How do I apply for online courses at UCC?
Once you decide that Broadview University online classes are right for you, you can apply right away. Of course, you can always call admissions representatives and financial aid counselors with specific questions about scholarships, the application process and program details.
