Many military students often find online college to be the only way they can complete their college educations. They may be deployed in war zones, assigned to remote bases where there are no college programs or living abroad as spouses or family members of active duty members of the Armed Forces. These and other military students welcome the chance to earn college degrees online.
At UCC Online, we believe that members of the military and their families should be recognized for their sacrifices. That’s why we offer special programs just for military students and their dependents. These programs begin with our dedicated military student services staff. They are retired military (US Army First Sergeants) and know from first-hand experience the kinds of challenges and obstacles military students face. Contact Mike Hughes or Mike Blumberg toll-free at 1-877-410-0475 to learn more about the special services we offer military students and families.
What we can do for you
Our military student services staff will advocate for you during your time at UCC Online. They will provide help with matters such as:
- Evaluation of military training and previous education evaluation for possible credit for prior learning
- Assistance with military benefits claims
- Help with goal setting
- Assistance with selecting the right online degree
- Scholarship applications
- Admission applications
Support while deployed
It is possible to make progress toward your degree, even if you are in a war zone such as Iraq or Afghanistan. As long as you have access to the Internet, you will be able to complete your assignments and finish your classes, even under challenging circumstances. The high level of online support that we offer to all students makes the difference.
Exceptions for military students
We know that some members of the military, especially those in war zones, may be unable to log in to their classes as frequently as required. They may be on sensitive missions or called to active duty in the middle of a quarter. We understand that our military students do not lead predictable lives. We give them the option of requesting a military absence that allows them to restart their coursework when their schedules become more regular.
We also permit an instructor to issue a grade of Incomplete (I) if enough coursework was completed before the military absence was requested. And military students can withdraw without penalty if changes in military status mean they cannot complete their coursework.
Helping those who protect us
Exceptions to our usual academic policies such as those listed above are indicative of the ways we support our military and their families. We are grateful to those who have sacrificed so much and wish to help them achieve their goals during and after their military service.
